Rock Suite & Mpfuvu House - Ulusaba Game Reserve

Ulusaba Private Game Reserve is Sir Richard Branson's safari lodge located in the Western sector of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. Guests can taste the spoils of Africa in peace and tranquility providing the perfect place for all age groups and for any occasion to experience a safari.
Ulusaba has a brand new tree house style suite at Safari Lodge called Mpfuvu House!
The Mpfuvu House suite (pronounced 'mp-foo-vu' which is the Shangaan word for Hippopotamus) is perfect for those looking for a little more privacy and seclusion. Located just 15 minutes walk along a raised canopy walkway from Safari Lodge, the new suite offers excellent views of Xikwenga Dam, where hippos and elephants come to bathe.
This stunning suite features a King Size bed cocooned in a luxurious mosquito net, spacious lounge including a sofa bed, dining area for up to 4 guests and a private viewing deck. The lavish en-suite bathroom, complete with oversized bath, separate shower and his- and hers- vanities, has floor to ceiling windows for panoramic views over the bush.
Inside there are all the usual creature comforts, including a full in-room bar, tea and coffee making facilities, plus torches and ponchos to keep guests warm when walking to and from the Lodge.
Guests can also feel safe knowing they will be looked after by their very own security guard watching over them from dusk until dawn.
Beyond the entrance to the suite is another small bridge to the 'Mpfuvu Lounge'. This beautiful open air viewing deck is the perfect place for sundowners complete with lounges, viewing stools and a large dining area for up 20 guests. Binoculars are available as well as a self-service bar.
TREEHOUSE SUITE
The Treehouse Suite is about a 15 minute walk along the elevated walkway from Safari Lodge. It's great place to get up close and personal with hippos and elephants when they come to bathe and cool down in the nearby Xikwenga Dam. The dam is the largest in the Western Sector of the reserve, and when you stay here it's almost as if they game comes to you rather than the other way round.
Even the walk to the Treehouse is an experience as you pass under the canopy of ancient trees over the dry river bed - there is a fantastic array of bird life on display. Guests staying here can opt to dine privately on the deck area just off the suite.

Rock Lodge Rooms and Suites
Rock Lodge is perched high on the summit of a koppie with views over the vast lowveld and the distant Drakensberg Mountain range.
There are eight rooms and suites individually designed with the colours denoting a different African tribe or region. These include four Rock Cliff rooms, one Master Suite, two Makwela Suites with private infinity plunge pools and one two-bedroom Rock Suite.
ROCK LODGE

Rooms:
- Rock Cliff Rooms x 4: adjoining, south-facing views, rooms are spacious and en-suite bathrooms have views. 2 of these rooms are built on split levels with a spiral staircase connecting the bedroom and bathroom.
- Rock Suite x 1: spacious 2 bedroom suite with living area and iPod docking station. Master Bedroom has full en-suite, 2nd bedroom has queen bed that cannot split into twin and smaller en-suite bathroom without bath. 2nd bedroom does not have a Bush view.
- Master Suite x 1: built on 3 levels with beautiful views, en-suite bathroom, private balconies with infinity plunge pool, living area, telescope and iPod docking station.
- Makwela Suites x 2: built on 2 levels with private balconies, full en-suite bathrooms as well as outdoor showers, infinity plunge pool, living area and separate study/library. Each has a luxurious fold-out sleeper couch, suitable for children, in-room complimentary internet access and surround sound CD player.
Safari Lodge Rooms and Suites
Safari Lodge is located beneath a canopy of ancient trees on the edge of a dry riverbed. Guests will love the sense of adventure as they cross rope bridges between tree house style rooms, with local wildlife passing by. The eleven rooms include a Treehouse Suite overlooking the nearby Xikwenga Dam and are split into Safari, Elephant and River Rooms, some of which have private plunge pools. The Treehouse Suite is located a 15 minute walk along a raised walkway from the main lodge.
Mpfuvu Tree House

- Situated on the dry Mabrak riverbed nestled amongst ancient Jackalberry trees in the heart of the African Bushveld
- Built tree house style with close Bush views. Many parts of the lodge are accessed by swing bridges or wooden walkways

Rooms:
- Safari Rooms x 3: adjoining, close to Main Lodge, no swing bridge access, large viewing decks. Smallest rooms at Safari Lodge. En-suite bathrooms with great views.
- Elephant Rooms x 3: built tree house style high above the Bush and accessed by swing bridges but still quite close to the Main House. Rooms are spacious and en-suite bathrooms have views. Large viewing decks.
- River Rooms x 4: built tree house style - very private. River 1 is not accessed by swing bridge and is quite close to communal areas. Rest are accessed by swing bridges, with River 4 being a good 4-5 minute walk fromthe Main Lodge. All are very spacious and ensure privacy. All en-suite bathrooms have views. River 2 and 4 have infinity plunge pools.
ALL ULUSABA ROOMS HAVE...
King Size beds (except second bedroom in Rock Suite), air conditioning, ceiling fans and mosquito nets. All rooms supplied with bottled water, spray-on insect repellent, Virgin Vie toiletries, hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers. All rooms include tea and coffeemaking facilities, snacks and a complimentary mini bar. All have en-suite bathrooms with separate bath and shower. Each has a terrace or balcony, some of which are private.

Beyond the twice daily game drives at Ulusaba there's still plenty to do once you're back at the lodges!
All about relaxation
The Aroma Boma Spas at Rock Lodge and Safari Lodge offer a fabulous range of treatments to help you relax and unwind after the excitement of game drives.
Guinot Treatments offered include a liftosome facial using a high concentration of vitamin C and proteins to strengthen elasticity and firmness whilst stimulating cellular regeneration. Our resident beauticians also offer aromatherapy massages, manicures, pedicures and waxing. Prices are available on request.
There are also two outdoor pools which are heated during the winter months - one at each lodge.
'Nose and swirl' around a few reds and whites
There is a wine cellar at Safari Lodge with an outdoor dining area for up to six guests - great for private dining. The wine cellar overlooks the waterhole with views over the dry riverbed and surrounding Bush. Guests from Rock Lodge are welcome to use the wine cellar at Safari Lodge.

Guests can enjoy a star gazing evening as part of their game viewing experience at our Observatory tucked away in the Bush.

The Gift Shop situated at Safari Lodge is filled with a selection of arts, crafts, small gifts and clothing ranging from caps, shirts and beanies to gloves. It's perfect for gift ideas for your friends, family or even yourself, and has all the bits and pieces you may need when on holiday.
Tennis in the Bush?
Fancy a spot of tennis! We have two floodlit tennis courts for you to play on during your stay. Don't worry about tennis racquets and tennis balls - we have everything you need including a fully stocked bar! There is no additional charge for this experience.
Tree House (Hippo Lounge)
The Mpfuvu Lounge is the name for the Tree House at Xikwenga Dam -'Mpfuvu' is the Shangaan word for hippo. The Tree House is about a 15 minute walk along the elevated walkway from Safari Lodge and is a great place to get even further into the Bush to see where the hippos and elephants come to bathe and cool down in the water. In the evening dining can be organised here with other guests on the Tree House deck.
Walking in the Bush
The daily walk usually commences after breakfast. This is a fascinating activity as it allows you to observe the smaller animals that you would usually not see while out on the game vehicles. Our knowledgeable Rangers and Trackers will enthral you with stories about the medicinal properties of plants, local beliefs regarding the wildlife and fascinating facts regarding the animals. There is no additional charge for this experience.
Working out
There is a gymnasium situated at both Rock Lodge and Safari Lodge, available for guests to use 24 hours a day. There is no additional charge for this experience. |
